All Assam Women Writer Association is a huge foundation for the women of Assam. This organization had worked for intellectual explosion of Assamese women since 1974. This attempt helped upcoming women from across the state in getting unified by distributing portfolios, allowing participation in open and in other intellectual activities for writing and thus has been able to create a striking podium that is thanked by all quarters. In this regard the founder president Padmashri Dr. Sheela Barthakur contributed the wholesome entity. Further the office bearers have been contributing altruistic services to keep the organization active. Although the organization has a regulated constitution, newer thoughts are being incorporated by observing the current circumstances. Essentially the objective will be to develop the future generation. The office bearers are selected and nominated according to caliber, skill and modernity. In a different perspective it can be said that in certain cases literary creations of men is inadequate analysis of mental status of a women. In this connection the view given by Dr Banikanta Kakoti is noteworthy '.... In literature, how much the mental nature and characteristics of women are imagination or realistic presentation as depicted by male writers will remain as an everlasting dilemma till some educated, powerful and creative writers emerge in the society. We expect our women writers to proceed in solving these issues'.
In the year 2004, the then Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi granted Rs. 5 lakhs from his personal account. Out of these two trust funds were created to accord recognition to eminent women writers and artists in the name -Lekhika Samaroh Sahitya Bota- (to be awarded to women writers below 60 years) and -Silpi Aaideo Handique Memorial Artist Award-. In every two years these awards had since been given at the biennial conferences of All Assam Women Writers Association.
